Imagine if your IT system could warn you about issues before they turn into big problems. That’s what predictive analytics helps you do. Predictive analytics will analyze data trends to spot warning signs early, giving you a head start on fixing issues.

How Nagios Helps:

Nagios XI uses smart alerting that prioritizes the most critical issues, looking at historical data to help predict future outages and IT problems. With the right alerts in place, your team can focus on fixing real issues instead of getting bogged down by false alarms or minor glitches. Predictive analytics can also be used for capacity planning.

Introduction

Nagios Fusion is a powerful tool designed to bring together the monitoring of multiple Nagios instances into a single, unified dashboard. Whether you’re managing a small network or a complex infrastructure, Nagios Fusion provides an easy way to gain visibility and control over all your systems. In this article, we’ll walk you through setting up your first server in Nagios Fusion, step-by-step. By the end, you’ll have a centralized monitoring solution that streamlines operations and helps you quickly identify and respond to issues. For more information on how you can utilize Nagios Fusion, click here!

Note: This article specifically demonstrates the process of fusing Nagios XI with Nagios Fusion, using XI for all examples.

Prerequisites

A running Nagios Fusion server (You can install it here.)

A Nagios XI server to fuse with Fusion.

Administrative access to both servers.

Nagios XI, our monitoring, alerting, graphing, and reporting solution, is an excellent value for environments both large and small. In larger environments where multiple monitoring servers may be required, Nagios Fusion provides immense value. If your IT infrastructure contains a few hundred hosts, a single XI monitoring server may be all you need to cover your requirement. As scale increases, it becomes necessary to split your monitoring between multiple XI servers. Nagios Fusion is here to help, providing you with a single pane of glass where you can view status information from across your Nagios monitoring servers.

Fusion can also be of great value in geographically dispersed infrastructures. You can deploy a local Nagios XI server at each location, then use Fusion for consolidated insight into important events. Fusion’s design makes it one of the easiest possible methods for achieving distributed monitoring in both cases of large scale and geographic separation. And now, starting in version 2026R1, Fusion also provides centralized management of the connected Nagios XI systems.

Distributed Monitoring Made Easy

Nagios Fusion reaches out to your Nagios XI servers on a customizable interval (by default every 5 minutes) to collect status data from them. The connection is via HTTP/HTTPS, saving you the trouble of setting up dedicated links or firewall rules, and simplifying setup. Fusion can also poll data on Nagios Log Server and Nagios Network Analyzer servers, providing a single pane of glass where you can view data collected by the whole Nagios Suite. Fusion also works with Nagios Core servers running version 4.0.7+.

Adding Nagios servers to your Fusion install is a quick and easy process, and once added the data from your fused servers can be viewed in custom Dashboards, rotating Views, and several built-in tactical displays.

Built-in Tactical Displays

One of many great things about Nagios Fusion is it provides value the moment you begin to fuse your Nagios servers, thanks to the built-in tactical displays. Let’s take a look at a couple of those options:

The Network Operations Center display provides an overview of open (aka unhandled) host and service problems which have not yet been acknowledged by an admin:

The built-in Network Operations Center status page.

The Tactical Overview shows consolidated tables reflecting how many items are in various states overall and individually on each fused Nagios server:

The built-in Tactical Overview status display.

As is the case with many of the dashlets we’ll discuss next, the above tactical displays aren’t just a visual aid; with a single click you’ll be viewing status detail pages and pre-filtered lists of objects in certain states directly in the web UI of your individual Nagios XI servers.

Customizable Insight with Fusion Dashboards

Nagios Fusion makes creating custom Dashboards quick and easy, and includes 30 unique dashlets displaying many types of data in a variety of ways, such as:

Hostgroup and Servicegroup Status

Open Host and Service Problems

Recent Alerts

Tactical Summary

Nagios XI BPI Status

Log Server Alerts

Log Server Cluster Status

Network Analyzer Alerts

Network Analyzer Bandwidth Graphs

Dashlets can be colored and sized however you wish, and Dashboards you create can be deployed to other users who might find them useful to save time and maximize impact.

Let’s take a quick look at a couple of custom dashboards:

This example shows performance graphs for memory and drivespace on Windows and Linux servers, along with Tactical Summary and Open Problems dashlets:

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="488" src="https://library.nagios.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Fusion-Graphs-Dashboard3-1024x488.png" alt="A Nagios Fusion dashboard showing various performance graphs." class="wp-image-40579" style="border-radius:8px;width:1200px" title="Fuse This!
In our second Dashboard, we have data on the health of our Fusion server itself, Host Health and Service Health summary dashlets, a Network Analyzer bandwidth graph, a Top alerts dashlet, and a Nagios XI BPI (Business Process Intelligence) group status dashlet:

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="488" src="https://library.nagios.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Fusion-Dashboard-Multi-1024x488.png" alt="A Nagios Fusion Dashboard showing various alert and status dashlets and graphs." class="wp-image-40595" style="border-radius:8px;width:1200px" title="Fuse This!
Your handcrafted dashboards can also be added to your Views, enabling you to rotate through them (along with various built-in tactical displays and even custom URLs) at a configurable speed. Views are an excellent option for creating dynamic NOC screens.

Multi-Tenancy Made Easy

Another great aspect of Fusion is the robust multi-tenancy, which enables you to fine-tune what each of your Fusion users has visibility of and access to. You can determine which fused servers are visible, and map your Fusion users to existing Nagios XI users on a per-server basis:

User Mapping settings in Nagios Fusion.

Once mapped, the Fusion user’s visibility and click-through access will be limited to the hosts and services you’ve already given them permission to view in Nagios XI, saving you time and ensuring a consistent user experience and access control across your deployment.

Centralized Management

Nagios Fusion 2026R1 marks an important first step in an exciting new direction for Fusion: centralized management of fused Nagios XI systems. The ability to copy users from one Nagios XI system to others with a few clicks has now been added in the new Centralized Management menu. You can learn more about the capability here:

Nagios Fusion 2026R1: Discover The Dawn of Centralized Management

If you have a large environment, or an infrastructure spanning multiple locations or regions, Fusion will prove to be a valuable asset.
Up your infrastructure troubleshooting and problem solving game with a powerful combination of Nagios solutions that will provide the holistic perspective you need.

Metrics such as up/down status, system performance, log data, bandwidth, and network flow data all provide valuable insights individually. The combined visibility of all these elements has become increasingly essential as IT infrastructure complexity increases, security threats become more plentiful and sophisticated, and the resource demands of your users and customers continue to grow. Nagios solutions are well-equipped to provide the holistic perspective you need.

Each Nagios product not only individually provides visibility into purpose-built aspects of the health of your systems, sites, and networks, but they can also be combined to achieve centralized views and management of issues and indicators identified by the entire Nagios Suite. This capability not only empowers you to quickly catch the ‘what’ of problems as they arise, but also helps you answer the more difficult question of ‘why’.

For example, if your Nagios XI monitoring shows heavy CPU, memory, and interface utilization on a webserver, the added power of Nagios Log Server and Nagios Network Analyzer would enable you to determine the regions and IPs the abnormal traffic may be coming from, and other key insights like failed login attempts to help you get to the bottom of the situation.

We’ll begin by providing a brief outline of each Nagios tool, then discuss how they can be integrated to provide comprehensive insight into your infrastructure.

Nagios Solutions Overview

Nagios XI is our monitoring, alerting, graphing, and reporting solution for status and performance metrics on servers, hypervisors, network equipment, websites, and more. Built on the time-tested Nagios Core engine, XI includes a robust collection of built-in monitoring wizards, and can be expanded with the thousands of free plugins on the Nagios Exchange community site, and custom plugins written by users.

Nagios Log Server is our centralized log collection, analysis, archiving, and alerting tool perfect for leveraging log data from many different systems and applications. Log Server’s clustering capabilities provide scalability and data protection, and built-in setup guides simplify sending data from common source types.

Nagios Network Analyzer is our network flow data collection, analysis, and alerting tool. Network Analyzer supports a variety of flow protocols including Netflow, sFlow, Jflow, and IPFIX. Network Analyzer provides insight into the origin and destination IPs and ports, protocols, and related volume of packets that compose your network traffic.

Working Well with Others

Several options are available for centralizing visibility of data from across the Nagios solutions stack. One great option is to consolidate check results in Nagios XI. Doing so provides the ability to not only visualize combined status data in areas like Dashboards and Reports, but also to manage alert settings (such as how often checks are run, who alerts should be sent to, and even more advanced options like escalation options) and handle alert acknowledgement from a centralized location.

Nagios Log Server and Nagios Network Analyzer alerts can be easily added to Nagios XI using the built-in monitoring wizards. The Nagios Log Server wizard enables alerts based on existing saved queries, or on custom Lucene or JSON queries created on the fly. The Nagios Network Analyzer wizard enables monitoring of bytes, flows, and packets from your flow data Sources, Sourcegroups, and Views. You also have the option of sending alert data upstream from Nagios Log Server and Network Analyzer to Nagios XI using the built-in NRDP (Nagios Remote Data Processor) passive agent or SNMP Traps (Simple Network Management Protocol).

Another great integration option is the ability to include Nagios Network Analyzer reports in Nagios XI. The Network Report provides Top Talkers data and visualizations for your Sources and Sourcegroups, and the Network Query Report enables you to access your custom queries inside of XI.

Single Pane of Glass

As scale increases, it may be necessary to split your monitoring between multiple Nagios XI servers to accommodate the increased check load. This is also a great architectural option in infrastructures that span multiple data centers, where local monitoring and global visibility are desired. Nagios Fusion provides a centralized tactical overview of data from across your XI deployment, as well as to the data they collect from your Log Server and Network Analyzer servers.

Nagios Fusion includes a variety of Log Server and Network Analyzer dashlets for easy inclusion of details such as alert history and cluster statistics in your Dashboards and Views. Additionally, Fusion provides quick access to both the Homepage and specific host and service detail pages on your Nagios XI servers with a single click. Here’s an example of a Fusion Dashboard displaying combined data from Nagios XI, Nagios Log Server, and Nagios Network Analyzer:

Ultimately, no single piece of software can provide in-depth insight into every data point necessary to solve complex problems. However, the great news is that combining the powerful capabilities of these Nagios solutions will empower you with the holistic perspective you need to tackle the complex challenges of your unique infrastructure, prevent and reduce problems, and keep things running smoothly and securely.
